Si è conclusa la campagna di raccolta fondi su Kickstarter per Torment: Tides of Numenera, il gioco di ruolo "vecchio stile" erede spirituale del mai troppo lodato Planescape: Torment in sviluppo presso inXile Entertainment (quelli di Wasteland 2, per citare un altro grande successo nato su Kickstarter).
Partita da una richiesta iniziale da...poverelli ("appena" 900.000 dollari, cifra che i publisher che ne sanno spendono solo per le brioches del reparto marketing), la campagna ha attirato le attenzioni di ben 74.405 finanziatori (senza contare le persone che hanno contribuito tramite PayPal) i quali hanno stanziato l'astronomica cifra di 4.188.927 dollari (senza contare i dollari raccolti tramite PayPal, che dovrebbero aver superato i 100.000). Questo risultato ha permesso a inXile Entertainment non solo di superare quanto da loro stessi raccolto con la campagna Kickstarter di Wasteland 2 (2.933.252 di dollari), ma anche di battere i colleghi di Obsidian Entertainment che con il loro Project Eternity si erano fermati a 3.986.929 di dollari.
Il grande affetto dimostrato dal pubblico (al limite della libidine) ha permesso a Brian Fargo & soci di raggiungere quasi tutti gli obiettivi fissati durante il corso della campagna, obiettivi il raggiungimento dei quali ha reso via via più grande, profondo e ricco il progetto. E' stato mancato solamente l'ultimo obiettivo, che sarebbe stato sbloccato al raggiungimento dei 4.500.000 di dollari (esagerati!) e avrebbe permesso a Torment: Tides of Numenera una ulteriore crescita in termini di lunghezza, profondità e contenuti, oltre a prevedere all'interno del mondo di gioco l'inserimento di una bella fortezza a disposizione del giocatore. Ho però se non il sospetto quantomeno la speranza che di riffa o di raffa almento quest'ultima feature verrà ripescata nel corso dello sviluppo.
L'uscita di Torment: Tides of Numenera era stata inizialmente fissata al dicembre 2014, ma il lievitare della complessità del progetto in seguito al mostruoso successo riscontrato ed al conseguente abbattimento di un obiettivo dopo l'altro causeranno un ovvio slittamento di tale data...e scommetto che sarà una delle rare volte che gli appassionati in attesa non avranno nulla di cui lamentarsi.
